Updated January 1, 2009

The filing deadline for the 2008 - 2009 Board of Property Tax Appeals session was December 31, 2008.  If you submitted a petition, you will receive a hearing notice 7 - 10 days prior to your hearing.  Hearings begin February 2, 2009.

For 2008 - 2009, the Board of Property Tax Appeals will hear petitions for the reduction of:

  1. The real market value of property as of January 1, 2008.
  2. The assessed value or specially assessed value of property as of January 1, 2008.
  3. Corrections to value made under ORS 311.208.
  4. Consider applications to excuse liability for the penalty imposed for failure to timely file a real property return or a combined return.

Petitions may be filed with the Division of Chief Deputy County Clerk during the period following the date the tax statements are mailed for the current tax year and ending December 31 of the same year.  For the 2008-2009 tax year, the filing period was from October 25, 2008 through December 31, 2008.  The deadline for filing petitions for the 2008-2009 tax year was December 31, 2008.

Petitioners must present convincing evidence that the value on the tax roll (shown on their tax bill) is wrong and why the value they are requesting is correct in order for the Board to change the value. Petitioners do not need to be present at the hearing; evidence may be presented in writing. Petitioners who indicate that they will be present at their hearing will receive a minimum of 5 days notice of the hearing date and time. Hearings are not rescheduled if a petitioner is unable to be present at their scheduled date and time.
