SUBJECT: ANIMAL SERVICES ADVISORY COMMITTEE

The Lane County Board of Commissioners is seeking applications from citizens interested in serving on the Lane County Animal Services Advisory Committee. People with interest and background in animal services issues are encouraged to apply.
ANIMAL SERVICES ADVISORY COMMITTEE: Is a newly created, seven member committee appointed by the Board of Commissioners to advise them and department managers on community needs and priorities related to animal services. The committee will meet at least monthly, and will advise on the adequacy of current services and recommend opportunities for improvement.
MEETING SCHEDULE:Monthly.
VACANCIES: One (1) lay member position representative of the community with a specific interest and knowledge in animal services issues, appointed by Commissioner Bobby Green.
TERM OF APPOINTMENT: Serves at the pleasure of the appointing Commissioner.
MEMBERSHIP: Seven (7).

The Lane County Board of Commissioners is seeking applications from citizens interested in serving on the advisory committee listed below. The committee advises the Board of Commissioners on a wide variety of topics and issues. Details about the committee and its composition, meeting schedule etc., are listed below.
HEALTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE: Makes recommendations to the Health Administrator and advises the Board of Health and the Board of Commissioners on matters of public health, planning, policy development, control measures, funding, public education and advocacy; and acts in a community liaison capacity to provide a link between the community and the Health Division.
MEETING SCHEDULE: Monthly, second Tuesday of the month from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.
VACANCIES: One (1) position, designated for a dentist (term expiration of 8/31/12).
TERM: 4 year term.
MEMBERSHIP: Consists of twelve (12) members with a broad public health interest and concern.

The Lane County Board of Commissioners is seeking applications from citizens interested in serving on the committee listed below. This committee is charged with the management of the Lane County Fair and serves in an advisory capacity to the Board of Commissioners on a wide variety of topics and issues. LANE COUNTY FAIR BOARD: This Fair Board is responsible for the planning, production and oversight of the Lane County Fair and for processing of policy or program issues that may arise. It sets the Fair and other admissions, entry fees, rental rates for equipment, rental rates for commercial exhibitors and the negotiation and implementation of contracts; and approves annual Fair budget for submittal to County Board of Commissioners. The Board of Commissioners is responsible for the management and maintenance of the Events Center and fairgrounds throughout the remainder of the year.
MEETINGS: As determined by the Fair Board.
TERM: Three (3) years.
VACANCIES: Five (5).

SUBJECT: MENTAL HEALTH ADVISORY / LOCAL ALCOHOL AND DRUG PLANNING COMMITTEE

The Lane County Board of Commissioners is seeking applications from citizens interested in serving on the Lane County Mental Health Advisory/Local Alcohol and Drug Planning Committee. Committee members’ responsibilities include serving on one subcommittee and will require two to four daytime meetings per month. People with interest and background in mental health issues are encouraged to apply.
MENTAL HEALTH ADVISORY BOARD: Advises the Board of Commissioners and Health & Human Services Department on matters relating to mental health, developmental disabilities, and alcohol and drug abuse in Lane County by reviewing major policies of the community mental health program and makes recommendations to the Director; assists in identifying needs and priorities; and serves as the Local Alcohol & Drug Planning Committee.
MEETING SCHEDULE: Monthly, fourth Thursday of the month at 11:00 a.m. In addition, the successful applicant will be required to serve on the alcohol and drug subcommittee which will entail attendance at those meetings two or three times per month.
VACANCIES: One (1) lay member position representative of the community with a specific interest and knowledge in mental health issues.
TERM OF APPOINTMENT: 4 years.

COMMISSION ON CHILDREN AND FAMILIES: The purpose of the Commission on Children and Families is to promote and enhance a responsive, accessible system of supports that promotes wellness for all of Lane County’s children, youth, and families. The four major goals of the Commission are to create a wellness system for children and youth, create and encourage collaborative partnerships, establish structured community planning and decision making processes, and maintain a framework of accountability. The Commission advises the Board of County Commissioners on critical issues and services affecting Lane County’s children, youth and families and serves as a local planning body for the Oregon Commission on Children and Families.
MEETINGS SCHEDULE: All members will be expected to attend and participate in all business of the Commission, including one to two monthly meetings (evenings, approx. 2 hrs. each), and shall serve on at least one sub-committee (day/evening, approx. 2-3 additional hours monthly). All members shall attend the board orientation training. Members who miss three or more Commission meetings in a calendar year without cause may be asked to resign from the Commission.
VACANCIES: One (1) Youth Position. Rural applicants and community members representing groups related to race, gender, disability, socioeconomic and other diverse interests are encouraged to apply.
TERM OF APPOINTMENT: Four (4) years. The terms shall be staggered so that approximately one-third of the terms expire each year.
MEMBERSHIP: Twenty-one (21) members, the majority of whom are laypersons. A lay person is one whose primary income is not derived from either offering direct service to children and youth or being an administrator for a program for children and youth.
