LANE COUNTY BUDGET COMMITTEE MEETING
Commissioners' Conference Room - following MWSD Meeting
I. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Kate Jones convened the Budget Committee at 5:30 p.m. with Commissioners Steve Cornacchia, Ellie Dumdi, Jerry Rust and Cindy Weeldreyer present, along with citizen members Peter Bartel, Marie Bell, Del Phelps and Bud Stewart present. Leslie Barrett, Recording Secretary.
II. PUBLIC COMMENT
John Lively, 1186 West D Street, Springfield spoke concerning the Metro Partnership. Mr. Lively announced that he was attending at the request of the Budget Committee. He gave an overview of the evolution of the partnership since 1989 and its focus today. He cited an industrial park in the town of Lowell as an example.
Paul Harrison, 440 West 23rd Avenue, Eugene spoke in reaction to the County Administrator's Budget Message. The CAO Budget Message stated that without new revenue, Lane County may cease to exist as a general purpose government. Mr. Harrison commented on the positive elements he had noted among the Board members, and a new sense of teamwork. He called for a new partnership with the citizens of Lane County.
III. BUDGET REVIEW
District Attorney's Office (Fund 24): David Garnick, Senior Management Analyst, briefly reviewed the District Attorney's Office budget, and stated that it was basically a maintenance level budget. MOTION: Tentative approval of Fund 24 of the District Attorney's office budget. Cornacchia MOVED, Weeldreyer SECONDED. VOTE: 9-0.
District Attorney's Office (Fund 31): David Garnick briefly reviewed Fund 31 of the District Attorney's budget. Funds are received from the Liquor Control Act. MOTION: Tentative approval of Fund 31 of the District Attorney's Budget. Dumdi MOVED, Phelps SECONDED. VOTE: 9-0.
Youth Services (Fund 24): David Garnick reviewed the Youth Services General Fund budget, reminding the Budget Committee that it included $100,000 they had recommended as an add-back. MOTION: Tentative approval of Fund 24 of Youth Services budget. Cornacchia MOVED, Dumdi SECONDED. VOTE: 9-0.
Youth Services (Fund 18): David Garnick briefly commented on the Youth Services Fund 18 budget. MOTION: Tentative approval of Fund 18 of the Youth Services budget. Cornacchia MOVED, Dumdi SECONDED. VOTE: 9-0.
Justice Courts (Oakridge and Florence): David Garnick reviewed the Oakridge and Florence Justice Courts budgets noting that the Florence Justice of the Peace had requested a slight increase in Materials and Services, and that Oakridge increased Personal Services by .25 FTE to cover a projected increase in the municipal caseload. MOTION: Tentative approval of the Oakridge and Florence Justice Court budgets, including adjustments. Dumdi MOVED, Phelps SECONDED. VOTE: 9-0.
IV. ADJOURNMENT/NEXT MEETING
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:18 p.m. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 9th.
