According to the CDC, empty calories from soda, fruit drinks, dairy desserts, grain desserts, pizza and whole milk contribute to 40% of daily calories for children 2-18. Adolescents drink more full calorie soda per day than milk.

According to the CDC, obese youth are more likely to risk factors for cardiovascular disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, prediabetes or diabetes, bone and joint problems, stigmatization and bullying, sleep apnea, heart disease, cancer, stroke, and osteoarthritis.
