Working Together for Human Needs
The mission of the Human Services Division (HSD) is to help people in need in Lane County by meeting their basic needs, increasing their self-reliance, building a safer community to live in, by providing easy access to the human services they critically need. During calendar year 2012, we assisted 73,076 people of all ages. This was achieved through a mix of contracted services provided by non-profit social service organizations, direct services provided by county staff, and involvement in community initiatives.
HSD’s services help people meet their basic needs and overcome barriers to improving their economic security. These services help low income individuals and families including at-risk and homeless children and youth succeed. We offer assistance to victims of domestic violence, and help people who are at risk of becoming homeless to maintain housing and those who are homeless to secure shelter and supportive housing. We help people access employment to move them toward self sufficiency. We assist low-income households with their utility bills and we help them improve their energy conservation skills and the energy efficiency of homes. We assist seniors, people with disabilities, veterans and their families to access appropriate services and benefits that will improve their health and welfare, help them to remain independent and self-sufficient and improve the quality of their lives.
