Animal Impound Information
Lane County Animal Services impounds a variety of stray and unwanted animals. Dogs, Cats, Rabbits, Birds, Iguanas, Ferrets, and Pot Bellied Pigs to name a few. Check out the Animals in Our Care on this website or visit the shelter to see what animals are currently impounded.
If your dog is impounded at Lane County Animal Services the following fees will apply. Progressive impound fees will apply if your dog is impounded within a 12 month period.
Get out of Jail Free Card
If your dog is displaying a current license, and you redeem your dog within the first
business day and it is the first time within a 12 month period there are no impound fees.
Impound Fee - 1st $25
Impound Fee - 2nd $50
Impound Fee - 3rd $100
Boarding Fee $12 per day
License Fee
All dogs must have either a license or an ID tag displayed, (depending on the age of the dog or the area where the dog lives), before it may be released to the owner. If you have one at home please bring it with you.
Rabies Vaccination - Dogs only
Proof of a current rabies vaccination must be provided. Please note, even if your dog is wearing a rabies tag, the vaccination may not be current, (the tag does not display the expiration date). If you cannot show proof that your dog is current on its rabies vaccination, check with our staff to schedule a vaccination.
If your dog has been involved in a bite or any other serious incidents, some other restrictions may apply. You may also be subject to citation(s) for violation(s) of the animal code.
Failure to Redeem
Pursuant to Eugene Code Section 4.390 (9) and Lane Code Section 7.0658 (8) failure to redeem your animal could result in a citation begin issued to you. The maximum penalty for City of Eugene residents is $500. Residents that live in unincorporated Lane County could receive a fine of up to $816. Failure to redeem your animal could result in it being adopted, transferred or euthanized.
