Your efforts directly benefit the shelter animals.

Your shelter is able to ad, improve and expand lifesaving programs.

You will help save animals that need medical care or training before being adopted.

You will have the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience working with animals.

Volunteers help make LCAS a vibrant and progressive animal shelter.  We are glad to have your talents and passions, and we look forward to working with you to save lives.

Be committed to our philosophy of using humane, positive training techniques with all of our sheltered animals.

Be supportive of our mission and philosophy to save all the adoptable and treatable animals that come to the shelter.

Volunteer Opportunities:
Dog Walkers:  Volunteer Dog Walkers are responsible for socializing, walking, training and improving the adoptability of shelter dogs.  Dog Walkers are trained in 4 consecutive levels.

Level 1 Dog Walkers:
Use Classical Conditioning and Reward Training to train good "kennel presentation".  Entering kennels and socializing the dogs in the kennels.  Assisting kennel staff in providing food-stuffed "Kong" treats.

Level 2 Dog Walkers:
Remove dogs from kennels and take them to exercise yard.  Train dogs in basic manners and social skills.

Level 3 Dog Walkers (Volunteer Trainers):
Work safely with fearful-aggressive dogs.  Use "clicker training" to shape behavior.  Assist in dog-to-dog introductions.  Work with dogs that need behavior modifications before being adopted.

Groomers:
Volunteers in the Volunteer Grooming program bath and groom shelter dogs.  The goal of the program is to increase adoptions by prsenting clean, happy dogs to their potential new families.  The grooming time should be a fun and positive experience for the groomer and a time of affection and attention for the dogs.  *Note that occasionally cats or kittens will also need bathing.

Digital Crew:
Volunteers participating in the digital crew create fun, engaging digital photographs and written descriptions of our shelter animals.  This information is uploaded to our website, Petfinder.com and appear in our monthly Adopt-A-Pet ad in the Register Guard.  The number of potential adopters looking for a new companions online is increasing steadily.  The Digital Crew makes information about LCAS' adoptable animals readily accessible and more informative than ever before.  This helps even more adoptable animals find their permanent adoptive families.

Off-site Adoption Leads:
Off-site Adoption Leads make it possible to continually expand the number of venues where LCAS animals (particularly cats/kittens) are available for adoption.  They perform a vital role in the success of alternative adoption venues.  They maintain the cat-condos, maintaining food, water and cleanliness.  They monitor the emotional well-being of the adoptable animals.

Office Assistance:
Volunteer Office Assistants provide support to the front office administration staff.  Examples of duties include stuffing envelopes, preparing adoption packets, and checks lost and found records.
