Flooding at LCAS!  Soggy doggies seek donations of wood chips!
Did you know that LCAS is located in the middle of a WETLAND?  It's true!  We are in desperate need of WOOD CHIPS to fill in the flooded play yards.  Our dogs are literally wading in water when they go to play or potty outside .
    How can you help?
Please consider bringing us a truckload (or 6!)of "deco bark" from Rexius or "wood chips" from Lane Forest Products.
    Thank you for your support!

I might be the cutest black lab puppy you've ever seen!  I was found at the Millrace with bloody wounds on my head.  The veterinary staff here later extracted a BB pellet from my nose - ouch!  It also seems like some wounds may be from tangling with a nutria.
I am such a silly, gooft puppy.  Like any puppy I need lots of exercise and training.  I love people so much I give lots of kisses and tend to jump up when I am excited.  I'm just a happy guy!  Give me a few months of training and I'll make a great best friend for you!I

    Animals Need Assistance for Surgeries

Lane County Animal Services is asking for community donations to support necessary surgeries for two abused dogs.

Maya and Bobby both have multiple fratures that require immediate, extensive surgery.  The medical expense is expected to be approximately $12,000.

In December, LCAS became involved in an investigation led by Eugene Police Dept. when a man allegedly abused a puppy.  LCAS found the puppy had several broken bones that had been broken over a period of time.

The puppy's owner spent the night in jail and LCAS discovered he most likely had another
dog in his care.  According to the Lane County Jail's Custody Referee, the owner's Conditions of Release from jail stated no contact or caring of animals until trial.

LCAS Senior Officer Bernie Perkins went to the owner's location and discovered a second dog, which also suffered from broken bones.

LCAS is seeking community donations to support the immediate and long-term care these dogs will need.  We are moving forward with necessary surgeries hoping the community will help us cover these costs.

In cases like these where abuse is suspected, the owner could be ordered to pay for the costs of the medial care.  If we are able to recoup these medical costs, we will allocate the funds towards covering the medical care of other abused or neglected animals.

    How To Donate:

     Special Needs Animals

Animal Services is doing everything within our resources to save all of the adoptable and treatable animals that come to our shelter.  Unfortunately, we do not have the resources to treat them all.  Many of the animals that come into the shelter have special needs.  For some it is an injury or illness, while others have behavior issues that need to be worked on.   Animal Services is looking for that special adopter that has the knowledge and resources to save the life of just one special needs animals.

Take a look at our current special needs animals and let us know if you are that special adopter or foster home.

Goober’s entropion surgery was successful.  We can see his beautiful blue eyes now.  There still is some post operative swelling, but once that is gone, he will be most handsome and ready for his new home!  Thanks to all of you that donated towards his surgery.

Now all he needs is a fabulous home that is looking for a blue eyed 2XL hunk of love!!
