VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: GROUPWORKER AIDE

DETENTION

JOB SUMMARY: Assist groupworkers in detention facility (Juvenile Justice Center).
JOB DUTIES: Observe and learn the daily routine for youth in detention. Assist staff in supervision of personal hygiene, leisure activities and school Interact with individual youth as available. Assist them in making appropriate behavioral and attitudinal changes.
BENEFITS: Allows detained youth more individual attention and interaction with adults. Provides the volunteer with practice in all aspects of groupwork with adolescents.
TRAINING EDUCATION  EXPERIENCE Prior introduction to groupwork, through either academic coursework or prior experience with troubled youth. Volunteers will be provided with orientation to the facility and procedures and with regular supervision and feedback.
PERSONAL TRAITS Ability to understand and practice confidentiality.

Ability to assess and make sound and appropriate decisions.

Enthusiasm for working with youth.

REQUIREMENTS At least 20 years old.

No criminal convictions

Basic First Aid training.

JOB RELATIONSHIPS Supervised by groupworker.
TIME COMMITMENT At least one 8 hour shift per week for at least three months.
