VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Probation Counselor Intern

Supervision

JOB SUMMARY: Assist juvenile counselor in all aspects of work with youth on probation for juvenile offenses.
JOB DUTIES: After orientation to the Department, meet with supervising juvenile counselor to observe and discuss work with youth on probation. After case assignment, meet with youth and family and develop and monitor case plan. Draft court report , review with counselor and present to court at hearings. Meet with parents, therapists, family and others as needed.

TRAINING EDUCATION EXPERIENCE At least college senior standing.

Good problem solving and communication skills

Ability to work as part of a team

Ability to communicate with youth and families from a cross section of backgrounds.

PERSONAL TRAITS Maturity

Ability to understand and maintain confidentiality

Reliable and dependable.

REQUIREMENTS No felony convictions

At least 18 years old

JOB RELATIONSHIPS Supervised by probation officer

Responsible to Volunteer Program Manager

TIME COMMITMENT Twenty hours a week for six months.
