Siuslaw Estuary Partnership

The Siuslaw Estuary Partnership is a collaborative effort by the City of Florence and federal, state, and local partners to protect and improve water quality and fish and wildlife habitat in the lower Siuslaw River Watershed. This three-year project is funded by project partners and the US Environmental Protection Agency.

Lane County is a partner in the Siuslaw Estuary Partnership through an intergovernmental agreement with the City of Florence and Heceta Water Disrict to provide technical assistance for a groundwater study of the North Florence Dunal Aquifer.  This aquifer is the sole source of drinking water for the City of Florence.

Groundwater in the aquifer was of good quality when the last comprehensive testing was done 23 years ago. The current groundwater study will provide data on the present water quality conditions of the aquifer through groundwater sampling of a network of monitoring wells recently constructed at multiple locations around the aquifer.
