Lane County Sheriff's Office

Message from Sheriff Burger:

It is my privilege to serve as your Sheriff. Because the office of Sheriff is one of the few remaining elective law enforcement positions, your opportunity to shape the public safety fortunes of Lane County - our community - is unparalleled.

Sheriff’s Office staff and I have acknowledged our purpose (mission) is to: "Make Lane County a safer place to live by protecting lives and property, while maintaining the dignity of all people." We envision the Lane County Sheriff’s Office serving as the premier law enforcement and correctional agency in the State; leading Lane County law enforcement and criminal justice efforts; and delivering on Lane County residents’ expectations.

The Sheriff’s Office provides correctional services including a 507-bed jail, 122-bed Community Corrections Center (work-release), and out-of-custody programs such as Community Service and Sheriff's Work Crew. The Adult Correction's Parole & Probation section manages over 3,500 offenders in the community. We provide patrols of urban, suburban and rural areas, including timberlands, waterways, and coastal dune areas.  The Sheriff's Office conducts criminal investigations, maintains evidence and property storage, has an extensive criminal justice Records section, and operates a 24/7 Dispatch Center. Court security, offender transport, process service (criminal and civil), emergency management, and search and rescue functions round out the service the office delivers.

Lane County covers over 4,600 square miles, and is nearly the size of the state of Connecticut. Over 300 staff, with nearly that many volunteers, support these services and utilize land, marine, air and other assets to maximize our response capability.

It is our core value to serve with integrity and honor as we deliver on the public trust and expectations of citizens for a safe and secure community. We are dependent upon your input and your support.

Thank you for your confidence in us.
