RIS Mainframe "Celebrates" Retirement!!
On September 16, 2003, AIRS mainframe processing was transferred to a State of Oregon mainframe system in Salem, Oregon. This change brought to a close 38 years of RIS mainframe processing that began in 1965 with the installation of the first mainframe computer in the Lane County Computer Center. On October 6, 2003, the passing of the mainframe era was marked with a RIS Mainframe Retirement Celebration. Lane County CAO Bill Van Vactor and retired RIS Operations Manager Don Hedrick were given the honor of turning off the RIS mainframe. Included here are some photographs taken at the event by RIS staff member Margaret Sholaas.
