County-Owned Real Property Up for Bid

Contact: Lane County Property Management Officer Jeff Turk, 541-682-3859

What:  Community members are invited to an auction of County-owned real property acquired through tax foreclosure.

When:  Bidder registration begins at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, June 6. Bidding begins at 10 a.m.

Where:  Harris Hall, 125 E. Eighth Ave., in Eugene

A total of 17 properties are up for auction, with six of those being houses. The number of properties in this auction is slightly above average, and Property Management Officer Jeff Turk said the County would likely get more properties through foreclosures during the next few years.

“The foreclosure process takes almost six years to complete,” Turk said. “Properties deeded to the County this September will be the first since the recession began in 2008.”

Minimum bids are set for each of the parcels. Information on the terms and conditions of the sale and a list/description of the properties is available at:

Revenue from the sale of tax-foreclosed property first goes to the County to reimburse its expenses in managing the properties. The remainder of the proceeds is then disbursed to all of the taxing districts in the same manner as property taxes.
