County College is back and it’s unlike any other learning experience around.

Lane County Government piloted County College last fall, creating a successful learning experience that provided community members with an in-depth way to connect with the people and services of Lane County.

And this year, we’re doing it again.

Through 10 weeks of “class” community members will explore County facilities, and learn more about County programs and services. Participants will be part of unique activities and informative sessions each week.

Beginning early-September, County College will be held Thursday evenings from 6-9 p.m. for 10 weeks. Due to a holiday, the last class will be held on a Tuesday evening. Each session, from September 9, 2010 through November 9, 2010, will provide community members with information about the services Lane County provides and how they are relevant in our daily lives.

“County College allowed me to become more engaged with my community, and get a better understanding on how my local government works,” said Chris Boone, County College graduate.

County College is a FREE program for Lane County residents. Space is limited and applicants will be accepted based on the completeness and responses to application questions. Applications are due by Thursday, August 26, 2010. Sessions will include an overview of Lane County and topics such as:

  • Property taxes
  • Lane County’s budget
  • Increasing community safety through crime-free youth
  • Emergency management
  • Public safety
  • Services to children, youth and families
  • Public health
  • Animal services
  • Road maintenance
  • Behavioral health
  • Waste and recycling
  • Community involvement
  • Land Management
  • Deeds & Records
  • Elections
  • Parks
  • Search and Rescue

Interested community members may obtain an application to participate by contacting County Administration at 541-682-4203 or going online at www.lanecounty.org and clicking on “County College” on the home page.

Take the class. Be informed and get involved! Join other residents who help keep our communities strong by participating in their County government.
