Lane County is extending the deadline for the community to apply for funding for tourism related projects. The Transient Room Tax Special Projects grant program is designed to help enhance the visitor experience and boost the regional economy.
The deadline extension will help ensure there is a robust pool of potential projects for consideration. Applications must now be turned in by 3 p.m. on Friday, February 7. The previous deadline was January 16.
Up to $100,000 in total project funds will be awarded. Each recipient will be required to provide a 10 percent match based on the grant request. Feasibility studies, capital improvement projects (carpeting, restrooms, etc.), and projects that have received funding from this program the past two years are ineligible for funding.
In 2012, this program helped fund a project for the Florence Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber created a website that lets community members and visitors view the Florence bay from above, and explore local businesses and attractions - www.navifun.net. Other past recipients include festivals and special events.
