Lane County Board Chair Sid Leiken has been appointed to a statewide policy committee to help establish new policies around bicyclists and pedestrians as part of the Oregon Transportation Plan.

“Bicyclists and pedestrians are an important part of our transportation mix. Events such as the Blackberry Bramble—a cycling event in Lane County—and the Hood to Coast are examples of events that attract people to Oregon,” said Leiken. “I look forward to helping the State craft policies that reflect and enhance our diverse transportation needs.”

The Oregon Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan Policy Advisory Committee (PAC) will advise the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) on policies and strategies to be included in a new Oregon Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan (BP Plan). The final BP Plan will be adopted by the Oregon Transportation Commission. It will establish  statewide policy regarding bicycle and pedestrian modes’ contribution to the transportation system and be a part of the Oregon Transportation Plan. Commissioner Leiken is the only member of the 17 member committee from Lane County.
