Martin Luther King Education Center Students Deliver Firewood to Individuals and Families in Need

In observation of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the MLK Education Center students will deliver firewood donated by Hodgson’s Tree Service to Lane County Youth Services clients in need in the Eugene and Springfield areas.

“We think Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a perfect opportunity to give MLK staff and students the chance to reach out and provide individuals and families in our community the gift of warmth during cold and tough economic times,” said MLK Ed. Center Program Supervisor Matthew Sterner.

The service will take place each day from 1 PM to 3 PM from Monday, January 21st thru Wednesday, January 23rd. Youth Services clients interested in having firewood delivered to their home should contact the Martin Luther Education Center www.mlkedcenter.org.

The MLK Ed Center serves secondary students who currently have an active case with Lane County Dept. of Youth Services. The program is a collaboration between Lane County Youth Services, Lane ESD, Lane Workforce Partnership and several local agencies. MLK offers wrap-around services and support to youth who have experienced multiple interruptions in traditional school placements. Our mission is to provide our students with opportunities to develop skills needed to be successful in school, work and our community. The program’s success often leads to dramatic, positive changes in behavior, performance and attitude. For more information, visit the center’s Web site at www.mlkedcenter.org
