Time to Dust Off Those Gravel Roads
Contact: Darrell Randall, Lane County Public Works Zone 4 (Veneta) supervisor, (541)935-2417
Lane County Public Works Road Maintenance crews will be providing dust abatement for various roads throughout rural Lane County June 5 through June 12. See schedule below for road information. NOTE: Any vehicles that accidentally get the dust abatement material on them should be washed immediately with soapy water. It may require some additional effort to make sure the material is completely removed from the vehicle surface.
The County applies Lignin Sulfonate, which is a dust inhibitor. It is an organic non-petroleum product. It has been approved as safe by National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS).
Treating the gravel roads within Lane County prevents dust, which can damage vegetation, crops and affect the health of road users and adjacent property owners. Dust can also create unsafe road driving conditions and increase roadway surface raveling and maintenance costs. Dust abatement is provided on an annual basis for selected gravel roads through rural Lane County.
Closure dates/times: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday, June 5
Alternate route/s: There will be intermittent delays along the routes being dusted.
Tentative Schedule, weather permitting:
Florence, Dunes City, Mapleton, Canary
Ten Mile Road
Baker Beach Road
Maple Creek Road
Fiddle Creek Road
Siltcoos Station Road
Portage Way
Duncan Island Road
Bernhardt Creek Road
Each year a contract is awarded to the successful bidders. This year Sure Crop Farm Services in Junction City, Blue Line Transportation Co. in Portland and Envirotech Services of Greeley, Colorado will provide the dust abatement material.
