Contact: Todd Winter, Parks Division, 682.2001
The sixth commemorative coin in the series, featuring Mosby Creek Bridge, will be released on Saturday, July 19 in Cottage Grove at Bohemia Mining Days. Bohemia Mining Days is a four-day annual celebration of the rich mining heritage of Cottage Grove. This year’s event will take place July 17-20 with this year’s theme as "Mining Memories." Enjoy four days of mining displays, food and craft booths, live music, and fun contests for all. For more information and a list of scheduled events visit http://www.bohemiaminingdays.org.
On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., there will be 225 unnumbered Mosby Creek Bridge commemorative coins available for purchase at the Lane County Public Works booth. Unnumbered coins are $35 each with a limit of five coins per person. A total of 475 Mosby Creek Bridge coins were minted, with the first 25 numbered. Also available for purchase are limited edition prints of select, original paintings as well as recycled glass bridge ornaments.
The Auction of the numbered coins (starting with number one) will take place at noon on July 19 in Coiner Park on the Main Stage. Limited numbered Currin Bridge, Earnest Bridge, and Office Bridge coins will also be auctioned.
At 8 a.m. PDT, Monday, July 21, the remaining unnumbered coins will be available to purchase for $35 each (limit 5) through Lane County’s e-commerce site http://ecomm.lanecounty.org, by phone at 1-800-826-8978, or in person at the Lane County Public Works office, 3040 North Delta Highway, Eugene. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, except holidays. Orders that require mailing will be charged $4 per coin shipping and handling. No mail orders will be processed prior to July 21.
The Mosby Creek Covered Bridge boasts one of the most picturesque covered bridges settings in the County. Located east of Cottage Grove on Layng Road, it is open to traffic. Constructed in 1920 and restored in 1990, this bridge is Lane County’s oldest covered bridge and is typical of most of the smaller covered bridges in Lane County. The design is timber through (Howe) truss.
As a fundraiser to help maintain Lane County’s out-of-service covered bridges, the Public Works Department introduced a series of seventeen covered bridge commemorative coins. In addition to general production costs, the retail price of each silver coin in the series is influenced by the cost of silver at the time of minting.
