Many Lane County Residents Have Yet to File

Contacts: Lane County Board of Commissioners, 682-4203

The Internal Revenue Service estimates that more than 7,600 Economic Stimulus Package returns have not been filed by Lane County residents. The Lane County Board of Commissioners wants retirees and disabled veterans who qualify for the economic stimulus payment to know they still have time to claim it.

According to the IRS, "many recipients of certain benefits from Social Security and Veterans Affairs who are not normally required to file a tax return may be eligible for a minimum stimulus payment."

People who are not otherwise required to file an income tax return should file Form 1040A to receive the economic stimulus payment. Individuals must file before October 15 of this year to receive their money.

"We want local residents to know that they are entitled to these payments," said Commissioner Bill Dwyer. "It’s not too late."

A list of taxpayer assistance centers can be found at "Contact My Local IRS Office" at www.irs.gov
