The Lane County Board of Commissioners need people who are interested in serving on the Lane County Board of Property Tax Appeals for the 2008-2009 term.
The Board of Property Tax Appeals consists of three non office-holding residents of the county. The Board of Property Tax Appeals is responsible for hearing taxpayer appeals for reduction of the real market or assessed value of property. The term of each member begins on the date of appointment and ends on June 30, or when a successor is appointed.
The Lane County Board of Commissioners appoints all members of the Board of Property Tax Appeals. The appointments are to a pool of non-office holding members representing the Board of Commissioners as chairs of the Board of Property Tax Appeals, and to a pool of non-office holding members representing the Board of Commissioners as members of the Board of Property Tax Appeals.
Applicants must be residents of Lane County who are not employees of the county nor of any taxing district within the county. The number of boards assigned will be based on the number of appeals filed with the county. Members receive a stipend based on a rate of $12.50 per hour. Training sessions for the Board are held prior to the beginning of the hearings process. During the period of time that appeals are heard by the Board of Property Tax Appeals, the Board(s) meets 40 hours per week.
The Board of Commissioners encourages citizens interested in contributing to the important process of reviewing property assessments to submit an application for membership to the Board of Property Tax Appeals.
Applications are available in the Commissioners' Office located on the second floor of the Public Service Building, 125 East Eighth Avenue, Eugene or on the Internet at: http://www.co.lane.or.us/BCC/documents/applicationadvisorycommittee.pdf.
