New Bob Straub Parkway to Open in East Springfield

Phase II of the Bob Straub Parkway is scheduled to open next Thursday, August 21. The new 2 mile long roadway is being constructed between South 57th Street and Jasper Road, in east Springfield. Construction on the $6 million project began in July of 2007 and will open a year ahead of the project specified completion date. The Parkway provides a new arterial between the Eugene-Springfield Highway and the Springfield-Creswell Highway. The Parkway is a limited access expressway between Main Street and Jasper Road, providing access to the Natron area for new development and will help remove traffic from South 57th Street and the northern portion of Jasper Road.

A new traffic signal will control traffic at the intersection of South 57th and the Parkway. Drivers should also take special note of the new intersection controls at the intersection of Mt. Vernon Road. This intersection will be controlled by stop signs on Mt. Vernon Road. Mt. Vernon Road traffic will have to stop for the through traffic on the Parkway.

To facilitate the remaining work on the parkway, as well as Oregon Department Of Transportation’s Jasper Road Safety Project, Jasper Road will be closed between South 42nd Street and the Parkway, beginning next week. All through traffic will be detoured onto the new Parkway. Local residents will be able to access their property from one side of the closure at all times.
