Since 1998, Lane County has diverted over 600 tons of hazardous waste from Short Mountain Landfill.

Waste Management Division's Special Waste Program helps divert hazardous wastes from the landfill by offering hazardous waste disposal programs for

households and small businesses  

as well as waste prevention education, and information on alternatives to toxic materials. Staff also screen incoming loads at Lane County sites for hazardous waste and issue permits for special wastes such as asbestos, contaminated soils and difficult materials.
