Park Location and Description: The 2,363-acre Howard Buford Recreation Area (HBRA) is the largest of Lane County’s 58 parks. The park’s dominant physical feature is Mt. Pisgah, rising 1,531 feet above sea level or 1,000 feet above the Willamette River’s Coast and Middle Forks, which flow around its base. From the summit, hikers and equestrians can enjoy expansive views in all directions except to the north. The HBRA is also home to the Mt. Pisgah Arboretum , and outdoor classroom.
Parking Fees: A $2 per vehicle year round. A annual pass for the HBRA may be purchased for $20. Annual passes can be purchased any time of the year at REI, GI Joes, or the Lane County Parks office.
Trails:
Trail #1 – Beistel’s West Summit Trail
Length: 1.4 Miles
Elevation Gain: 1,050’
Use: Hikers only to the juction of Trails #1 and #3. Horses and hikers above junction with Trails #1 and #3. (Dogs must be on a leash on this trail.)
Trail #2 – Beistel’s East Summit Trail
Length: 2.5 Miles (to summit)
Elevation Gain: 1,000’
Use: Horses and hikers. (Dogs must be on a leash on this trail.)
Trail #3 – West Slope Trail
Length: 3.9 Miles
Elevation Gain: 600’
Use: Horses and hikers
Trail #4 – North Boundary Trail
Length: 2.8 Miles (4.2 miles from North Trailhead to East Trailhead via Trails 3, 4, & 2)
Elevation Gain: 650’ above North Trailhead
Use: Horses and hikers
Trail #5 – Quarry Road Trail
Length: 1.2 Miles from South Arboretum Boundary
Elevation Gain: 100’
Use: Hikers only
Trail #6 – Dery’s South Summit Trail
Length: 2.1 Miles from East Entrance to Summit
Elevation Gain: 1,000’ above East Trailhead
Use: Horses and hikers
Trail #7 – Bridge Bowl Trail
Length: .7 Miles to Junction with Trail #3
Elevation Gain: 350’
Use: Hikers only
