Lane County Department of Public Works, Vegetation Division in 2007 released a biological control called Bruchidius vilosus to attempt new methods for controlling the rapid invasion and spread of Scotch Broom along County roadways.  We released the seed weevil at 13 sites across Lane County in June 2007 in a partnership with the Oregon Department of Agriculture.  These site will be monitored over the coming years to see if the bugs are both surviving and working at redcuing the spread of Scotch Broom in the release areas.  Volunteers from the Vegetation Management Advisory Committee worked to collect the seed weevils and distribute them at various test sites, along with County staff and employees from the Oregon Department of Agriculture.
