Lane County department of Public Works, Vegetation Division is responsible for maintaining vegetation along 2,600 lane miles of roads that exist within Lane County.  Lane County has adopted the process of Integrated Vegetation Management, which incoporates various methods such as mechanical, manual, biological, and to a lesser degree chemical methods to control roadside vegetation.  The goal of integrated vegetation management is to establish low maintenance vegetation conditions that promote a high level of public safety, reduce maintenance costs, sustain road system integrity, and promote environmental stewardship within Lane County.  We base our vegetation management program on five primary objectives.

º Safety for the traveling public and County staff.

º Maintenance of the infrastructure and road system Integrity.

º Cost effective use of public resources.

º Reduce or eliminate long-term environmental impacts.

º Satisfy the needs and concerns of adjacent landowners and the traveling Public.

Lane County Public Works - Urban Vegetation Management

Lane County Department of Public works maintains over 200 miles of roads within the Urban Growth Boundaries of both Eugene and Springfield. Vegetation crews work with the public to inform them of planned vegetation work when our activities impact landscaping, require tree removals or large pruning efforts.  We provide doorhangers that inform property owners of our planned activities to provide for a 10 day period in which homeowners can contact the county to get answers to any questions or concerns they may have about a planned project.
