Tuition is free - There is a class fee of $10.00
This class is a hands-on guide through your computer and the Internet. You will learn what your kids already know about the Internet. No prior computer skills necessary! The class is open to any interested person 18 years of age or older.
Classroom topics include:
- Computer hardware and software basics
|
- Windows basics and finding hidden files
|
- Getting connected to the Internet
|
|
- Newsgroups, Blogs, Myspace, etc.
|
|
|
|
- ID theft and protecting your privacy
|
- Setting rules and expectations
|
|
|
|
- Sex Crimes - including methods used by sexual predators to locate and manipulate their victims
|
- Internet Chat (instructors will go online live as a child and let you see what your children may experience)
|
- Filtering, blocking, and monitoring internet activity with software and using Parental Controls
|
- Searching the Internet for information on you and your family
|
- Searching your computer to see what your children have been doing
|
Must be over 18 years old to attend due to nature of the material.
Parking & Driving Directions:
Parking is available in the Overpark Garage at 10th and Oak. Students can purchase parking validation coupons from the Downtown Center.
From Interstate 5:

Take the exit marked Downtown/University of Oregon

Travel west on Franklin Boulevard until you reach East 11th Avenue

Follow 11th Avenue to Willamette Street, then turn right

The Downtown Center will be on the right (east) side of the street

Students and visitors can obtain discount parking coupons at the Downtown Center for the Overpark Garage at 10th and Oak
From the Ferry Street Bridge Area:

Follow Coburg Road south toward downtown

Turn right at the 8th Avenue exit

Turn again (left) at Pearl Street and continue until reaching 11th Avenue

Turn right on 11th and continue to Willamette

Turn right at Willamette - the Downtown Center will be on the right (east) side of the street

From South Eugene:

Take Hilyard, High or Oak Streets to 11th Avenue

Turn left onto 11th Avenue and follow 11th to Willamette
