DIVERSITY COMMITTEE

PURPOSE

The purpose of the Lane County Sheriff's Office Diversity Committee is to foster respect and resourcefulness within our workforce.  Individual differences and values are essential in building a strong, safe, and more productive work environment.  The department recognizes that a greater understanding and acceptance of cultural perspectives can only improve our service to the community and enrich the quality of our work experience.

LCSO DIVERSITY GOALS – 2006

 

1.  Publish monthly Diversity Committee minutes on the intranet and publicize its existence. 

2.  Plan and participate in the departmental roll-out of the Diversity Action Plan.

3.  Prepare short article on Diversity for FastLane, the county’s newsletter

4.  Increase attendance at diversity related community functions such as HRAC or the local Hispanic associations. 

5.  Participate in at least one cultural event such as the Fiesta Latina to gain maximum public exposure for the Sheriff’s Office Diversity efforts.

6.  Increase the number of female applicants for all sworn positions within the department.

7.  Develop training based on cultural competence and workplace practices.

8.  Have zero reports of harassment reported on the annual Job-Related Harassment Certification Form. 

9.  Conduct at least one internal Diversity Activity per year.
