Sheriff's Licensing Unit

Records Officers are cross-trained in a variety of specialty areas. Licensing functions are provided through the Sheriff's integrated central reception / records unit Main Office staff.

Licensing work includes:

  • Concealed Handgun Licenses (CHL) application and processing
  • Special weapon / firearm applications (firearms dealers, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms registrations)
  • Lane County Sheriff's Office official identification 
  • Fingerprinting for government applications (such as employment and various registrations.)
  • Sex Offender registration
 

Calendar Year 2005 Operations

Mandated licensing services are funded through fees, set by statute or the Lane County fee committee, that contribute toward the expense of operation.  In 2005 this unit processed 6,170 customers for fingerprinting, 2,115 Concealed Handgun Licensing transactions, 30 applications for federal firearms and explosives processes and registered 144 sex offenders as required by state law.

These cross-trained employees work in coordination with other Records Officers to provide the public access / reception for customers coming to the Sheriff's Main Office at Lane County Courthouse.  Goals and objectives for this unit are included in Police Records Unit information.

Fiscal Year 2005-06 Objectives

  1. Provide prompt, courteous and professional service to both our internal and external customers.
  2. Expand work hours for taking photographs, fingerprints and issuing permits to improve access for the community.
  3. Apply better technology when cost feasible.
