Sheriff's Police Records Unit

The Records Unit consists of Police Records, Civil Records, Concealed Handgun licensing and Central Reception.  This Unit processes and maintains accurate law enforcement records for public inspection, crime analysis, investigation, apprehension, prosecution and statutory and contractual requirements, including state and federal agencies. 

Records issues various licenses and permits,  photographs and fingerprints (mug-and-print) individuals as ordered by the courts, and provides fingerprinting services for the general public and provides warrant processing for Oregon State Police.

Calendar Year 2005 Operations

The Sheriff's Main Office Records Officers cross-train to handle the variety of document processing responsibilities mandated by statute. This year brought 11, 816 police reports requiring data coding and entry, distribution and filing, 19,347 traffic citations for processing in the State court system.

This unit also provides 8am-5pm staffing for the Sheriff's central reception function, assisting all people coming to the Sheriff's Main Office at Lane County Courthouse, while answering 19,816 telephone inquiries.

 

Fiscal Year 2005-06 Objectives

  1. Provide prompt, courteous and professional service to both our internal and external customers.
  2. Begin work to make public information more accessible to the public and news media; i.e., Internet.
  3. Develop an online (electronic) system for the public to file police reports.
  4. Accurately process and enter missing and wanted person, warrants, citations, stolen property, police reports and other record-keeping information into records and computer systems, meeting department, state and federal requirements.
  5. Process criminal subpoenas, civil notices, vehicle impounds and protective orders in a timely and accurate manner and with a helpful attitude toward the courts and public.
  6. Improve supervisory and lead worker coverage.
  7. Replace out-of-date computer technology through the Airs Consortium to improve tracking of calls, reporting capabilities, management and crime analysis information and regional coordination (i.e., CAD, Mobile Computing, Records Management System and Field Reporting.)
