JOINT BOARD OF DOUGLAS
LANE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS MEETING
December 1, 2003

1. Introductions (Commissioner Peter Sorenson)
Present: Doug Robertson, Joyce Morgan and Dan Van Slyke of Douglas County
Peter Sorenson, Bill Dwyer, Bobby Green, Sr., Don Hampton, Anna Morrison, Teresa Wilson and Recording Secretary Melissa Zimmer.
2. Overview of Process (Commissioner Peter Sorenson)
Sorenson explained this meeting was set up as a joint meeting of the Lane County Board of Commissioners and the Douglas County Board of Commissioners to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Tony Corcoran who was the state senator in District No. 4. He indicated that because District 4 is in Lane and Douglas counties, the Secretary of State authorized them to convene the meeting and set the time and place.
Sorenson explained that e ach nominee would give a five-minute presentation, after which time the Boards would ask questions. He added there would be a discussion period and then they will take a vote.
Wilson explained that according to the Secretary of State’s office, each commissioner brings with them a certain number of votes. She said the votes they bring are an apportionment based on the number of registered electors in the respective counties. She indicated that each Douglas County commissioner has six votes to cast. She added the Lane County commissioners (due to the higher population) are each bringing 9.4 votes.
3. Discussion (Commissioner Peter Sorenson)
The candidates interviewed by the Boards were Floyd Prozanski, Donald Nordin and Shirley Cairns.
4. Action (Commissioner Peter Sorenson)
MOTION: to approve Floyd Prozanski as State Senator.
Green MOVED, Dwyer SECONDED.
The vote was as follows:
Sorenson –Prozanski Dwyer-Prozanski
Votes Tabulated: Prosanski 37.6 votes
Cairns 27.4 Votes
Floyd Prozanski was selected as the appointee.
There being no further business, Commissioner Sorenson adjourned the meeting at 2:40 p.m.
