Oregon middle-school students are being encouraged to share their creative talents in the fourth annual poster search on problem gambling conducted by the Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS).

Winning posters will be featured during Oregon's Problem Gambling Awareness Week promotions in March 2007. Jeff Marotta, DHS problem gambling services manager, says that "through their posters teens are helping us spread the word that gambling can be risky in more ways than people think, since some teens and adults will go on to develop serious Hollis Gehrett, award-winning problem gambling awareness poster winnersproblems because of their gambling….the posters will help raise public awareness of a problem that affects one in 45 Oregonians."

Last year's poster winner was Hollis Gehrett of Eugene, an eighth-grader at Monroe Middle School.

Posters should be designed to reach friends, family or both; be prepared on letter-sized or 11-inch by 17-inch paper; and include the student's name, grade, school and city on the back.
Entries must be submitted by March 31 to local prevention coordinators, listed at http://egov.oregon.gov/DHS/addiction/gambling/opgaw-contacts.pdf.

The student submitting the winning poster will receive a $100 gift card, as will the classroom that submits the most poster entries. DHS and its partners will judge the entries.
