 Program Supervisor & County Prevention Coordinator

Her duties are as varied as the curls in her hair...

C.A. is the countywide prevention coordinator whose responsibility includes managing substance abuse prevention programs and activities Lane County H&HS contracts for or implements. She works cross-systems, including juvenile crime, early childhood, etc., to help ensure greater coordination of prevention efforts. She also provides project management for contracted prevention programs across the county.

Additionally, C.A. provides staff support and prevention expertise for a variety of programs and efforts across the county. This include staff support to the Mental Health Advisory/Local Alcohol and Drug Planning Committee, the Perinatal Periods of Risk project with Public Health, and has served on the leadership team of Success by Six for the past several years.

C.A. is a certified prevention specialist, a trainer for the Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist training program and an adjunct faculty for the University of Oregon.

 Project Director, Lane County Drug Free Communities

Michelle Lowery is the project director for the Lane County Drug Free Communities Grant and the Lane County Coalition to Prevent Substance Abuse.  Michelle also provides staff support to local community coalitions in Lane County.

Michelle's work has included: Family Support Worker positions with teen parents in a Young Parents Housing Program, Healthy Start and Community Safety Net (now Family Support and Connections), County wide coordination of Community Safety Net, Liaison to 12 rural school districts working with homeless youth, and staff to the 100% Access Mental Health Committee.

Michelle is a native Eugenean, the parent of a college student, plays indoor soccer, and is frustrated that the daily puzzles are no longer a separate section in the paper.

 Problem Gambling Prevention Coordinator | Prevention Website Coordinator

Julie has coordinated Lane County's problem gambling prevention program since its beginning in 2002. Her passion is to help youth, families, and communities make healthy decisions about gambling.

Lane County's program includes: unique, interactive workshops; original educational tools; strategies and policy suggestions for educators, professionals, and policymakers; and facilitation of our problem gambling advisory committee; and active involvement with related professional and community groups.  Julie also enjoys coordinating the Lane County Prevention Services websites.

Julie is a Certified Prevention Specialist and is also a consultant to Oregon's Problem Gambling Services. Her hobbies include video games, bike riding, football, and most of all, her rambunctious and very cute preschool girl.

 Healthy Babies, Healthy Communities Coordinator

Sandy has worked in various public health capacities for over 20 years and coordinated numerous projects, including the Hennepin County (MN) Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Project, a Perinatal HIV Prevention Project, and the Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS) and Perinatal Council for a 23-county region in California. 

Positions she has held include: Sr. Health Promotion Specialist for the Hennepin County Human Services and Public Health Dept., Regional Perinatal Coordinator for NE California, Program Specialist for the CA Dept. of Health Services, Training Coordinator for the California Birth Defects Monitoring Program, and Cancer Information Service Director for Minnesota and the Dakotas. 

Currently Sandy is coordinating the 2008 Healthy Brain Development Conference.

Sandy enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, movies, walking, biking, and gardening (when no weeds are involved).

 Administrative Specialist

Monica began providing her expertise to the Prevention team in December 2006. She has more than ten years of administrative experience and is looking forward to applying her skills and talents to assisting the Prevention team with various tasks, which include updating the Lane County Parenting Inventory, assisting with the "Substance Use and Brain Development" conference, organizing the Prevention library and much more.

Monica enjoys spending time with her family, bike rides, trips to the beach, baking and an occasional hockey game.
