Lane County campgrounds will have modified reopening on May 21

Updated guidance from the Governor’s Office regarding outdoor recreation will allow many campgrounds across the state, including in Lane County, to reopen with certain safeguards in place.

With that guidance, five Lane County campgrounds will reopen on a modified basis beginning on Thursday, May 21. People can begin making reservations beginning on Monday, May 18. The campgrounds are:
• Archie Knowles Campground (Mapleton)
• Armitage Campground (Eugene)
• Baker Bay Campground (Dorena)
• Harbor Vista Campground (Florence)
• Richardson Campground (Junction City)

“We have created a plan that balances the safety of campers while providing a place for people and families to enjoy the outdoors,” said Lane County Parks Manager Brett Henry. “We will monitor how our plan is working, including whether campers respect areas that remain closed, and make changes if necessary.”

Some of the precautions that will help protect campers and Parks staff are: restrooms will be serviced on a conspicuously posted schedule using approved cleaners and disinfectants; soap or hand sanitizer will be available in the flush restrooms in each campground; campers will not be able to commingle families in the same campsite; signs will be posted throughout each campground reminding people to maintain proper distance and hygiene.

All five of the campgrounds will have certain restrictions and closures in common, including: showers will remain closed; group campsites will remain closed; common areas such as playgrounds, pavilions, group picnic areas, shelters and sports courts will remain closed.

At Armitage, the dog park will remain closed. At Baker Bay, the concessions stand will remain closed. At Harbor Vista certain campsites will be unavailable to ensure proper distance between campsites. At Richardson, the day-use area and B Loop campsites, as well as a handful of other campsites, will remain closed to prevent overcrowding of the campground.
