Beach cleanup set for July 5 in Florence

Phone: (415) 497-4083

EMAC, in collaboration with County Transfer and Recycling (CTR), Lane County Parks, and Driftwood Shores, is hosting the SOLVE Dirtiest Day of the Year Clean Up Event. Please join us to clear the post-holiday debris! Recommended for ages 13 and up.

July 5 Beach CleanupHeceta Beach Cleanup will be held on the "Dirtiest Day of the Year," July 5, from 9 a.m. until noon. Meet at Heceta Beach Park (near Driftwood Shores at 88466 1st. Ave., Florence). Wear comfy but closed-toe shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. Kindly bring a backpack for hands-free convenience. Cleanup supplies will be provided. Let's all do our part to clear the post-holiday debris!  Please pre-register (through SOLVE) for this event using the link provided.

Every year lots of post holiday trash is left behind on Heceta Beach following the celebrations on July 4. It's tragic what is left behind. This includes sparkler sticks often partially buried in the sand--a danger for dogs and barefoot humans. In past years we have found smoldering rocket launchers and other firework debris, left behind toys, food and beverage wrappers and containers (plastic and glass), and filled dog waste bags. The goal is to reduce the amount of harmful pollutants from going into the sea where vulnerable sea life is at risk, and keep the garbage off the beach which may harm other wildlife.
