EUGENE, Ore. - The CDC confirmed Tuesday that a patient in Dallas, Texas acquired the Zika virus through sex. They say the patient became infected after sexual contact with a person who was ill and had been to an infected country.

In Lane County, health officials say the Zika virus is not currently a threat.

Jason Davis with Lane County Health and Human Services says there are currently no local cases of the virus, but he says the health department does have a plan in place in case the virus travels to the area.

"In the event that the virus becomes an actual threat in our county, or we start to see cases, we would do a health alert. That's essentially like an email or fax. It goes out to all area physicians and it's a step by step for what they need to look for and who they need to call if they see it," Davis said.

He says for now, it's important for people to continue good health practices.
