Mediation Program

Western Lane County Foundation (WLCF) Awards Lane County Justice Court $1,600.00 Mediation Grant

On March 12, 2019, Lane County Justice Court received a grant from Western Lane County Foundation (WLCF) in the amount of $1,600.00 to fund the training of two volunteer mediators to staff the Court’s new Florence Mediation Program. Thank you, WLCF!  The Court applied for the WLCF grant as part of its efforts to realize its goal of providing alternative dispute resolution for the Western Lane County small claims and landlord-tenant cases adjudicated in the Court’s Florence courtroom. The Court continues to work with the University of Oregon’s Conflict and Dispute Resolution (CRES) Program to seek grants to fund a pilot program to provide similar mediation services in other regions of Lane County.

Between April 27 and May 5, 2019, Florence resident Nancy Martin completed Basic Mediation Training in Salem, Oregon at Neighbor-to Neighbor Mediation. Nancy is a retired attorney from Missouri and Montana with a wealth of legal experience. She is now in the process of completing the observation and supervised mediation practice sessions required by Oregon Judicial Department rules to be able to conduct mediations in our court.

Unfortunately, our other mediation volunteer, who was originally slated for the April/May Salem training, had to withdraw from our program due to employment obligations. We are currently seeking an additional volunteer to complete the training and additional qualification requirements, so we can be fully staffed to provide this valuable service to our community.
