Petitions to appeal the value of your property for the 2017-2018 Board of Property Tax Appeals session are available below.

Please read the Filing Information document before submitting your petition.

Petitions
Petitions can be filed by mail, or delivered in person to Lane County Deeds and Records at 125 E 8th Ave, Eugene OR 97401.  The deadline for filing your petition is January 2, 2018.  Petitions will not be accepted after this date.

Filing Fee
Per LM 60.812(6), the fee for filing an appeal is $35 per account.  For parcels under the same ownership, appealed by the same party, and located in a single platted subdivision the maximum fee is $350.

Please include your check when you submit your petition.  Checks should be made payable to the Lane County Board of Property Tax Appeals.

Forms

Real Property Petition - Use  this form to request a reduction in the value of your land, home, buildings, manufactured home, and industrial machinery and equipment.

Personal Property Petition - Use this form to appeal the value of your taxable personal property.  Personal property is taxable if it being used or held for use in a business, or is floating property.

Petition for Waiver of Late Filing Penalty - Use this form to appeal the penalty assessed for late filing a personal property or industrial real property return.          

Hearings
Hearings will begin in February 2018.  If you indicated on your petition that you wish to be present, you will receive written notice at least five days in advance of your hearing date.

Purpose

Hears petitions for reduction of assessed, specially assessed, and real market values of property, and considers applications to excuse liability for penalties.

The Board of Property Tax Appeals is a Mandated Special Board. Mandated Special Boards and Committees consist of a group of citizens appointed pursuant to statute and charged with certain independent decision-making and other responsibilities over a certain area of County government. (Lane Manual 3.505). Applicants may be asked to undergo an interview process.

Meets

Variable between the first Monday in February and April 15 of each year.

Membership

Three-member board is selected by the County Clerk from a pool of members appointed by the Board of Commissioners, per ORS 309.067 (see Lane Manual 3.554 for details).

Note: You may submit an application at any time. Membership Term

The term of each member of a county board of property tax appeals begins on the date of appointment and ends on the June 30 next following appointment, or when the member resigns or is replaced, whichever occurs first.
