Description
|
Over the course of this six-week series, you will build the necessary skills to work successfully with both the challenges and opportunities presented by the increasing racial and cultural diversity and multicultural dynamics of our communities, schools, organizations and agencies.
These sessions will be led by Johnny Lake, PhD, Educator and Advocate for Children. As a participant, you will be a member of a learning community in which you can build knowledge and skills, as well as collaboration around taking action for institutional and community equity.
We strongly encourage you to register with other members of your organization, school system, or parent community in order to strengthen your shared understanding and goals of your work. We find that personal invitations to participate are the most effective!
Topics will include:
* Defining Identity, Race, Culture, Ethnicity and Other Terms
* How Identity Works- Socio-Political and Socio-Historical Contexts
* Understanding Stereotypes, Prejudice, Discrimination and Racism
* Learning About Advocacy, Equity, and Social Justice
* Building Community Beyond Race and Identity Issues
Please see the attached flyer for more details and registration instructions.
*This educational series is organized by Back to Back: Allies for Human Dignity, a program of Community Alliance of Lane County. Contact [email protected] for more info.
