Buying a Marriage License in Florence
Marriage licenses are available from the Lane County Justice Court in Florence. To apply in Florence, applicants must fill out the paper form available from the Florence Justice Court office, not the online form.

When applying for a marriage license, the following information is required for each person applying:

Photo ID
Address
Date of Birth
Place of Birth
Father's Name
Father’s place of birth
Mother’s Maiden Name
Mother’s place of birth
If either party has been married before you will need to know the year the previous marriage ended.

We strongly recommend that you bring your birth certificates to our office when you appear to sign and finalize your marriage application; state and federal agencies require that the information on your marriage license matches your birth certificate.

License Conditions

Age Requirement
As of March 10, 2025, The Oregon Senate has passed Senate Bill 548, a bipartisan effort to raise the minimum marriage age to 18, in a move aimed at protecting young Oregonians. Picture IDs are required for both parties.

Waiting Period
You must visit our office to sign and pay for the license before your marriage ceremony. After you visit our office to pay the required fees, sign your application, and receive your marriage license, there is a three day waiting period before you can marry.

The waiting period may be waived. To do so, you must complete a waiver request form and pay the $60.00 marriage license fee and the $10.00 waiver fee in cash. Both parties must be present to obtain a waiver. Once issued, the marriage license is valid for 60 days and may be used anywhere in Oregon.

Legal Names Taken
Each person in the marriage must select their legal name after the marriage. More information about name changes.

Cost of the Marriage License
The total cost of a marriage license is $60.00, which is non-refundable. Optional commemorative marriage certificates are available for $1.00. We accept payment in the form of checks, money orders, cash, and credit or debit cards. Checks and money orders should be made payable to Lane County.

Officiants
Ordained officiants do not register with the state or county prior to performing a marriage ceremony. Officiants must meet the requirements of ORS 106.120. It is the responsibility of the officiant to properly complete the marriage license form. Please refer to the “Instructions to Officiants” document included in the marriage packet for more information.

Medical Examinations
Medical exams and blood tests are not required.

Civil Marriage Ceremonies

Lane County Deputy Clerks are available to perform civil marriage ceremonies. These ceremonies are performed by appointment only, please call 541-997-2535.

In order to schedule your marriage ceremony appointment, you must have purchased your marriage license. The fee for officiant services ($150.00) is due at the time of the ceremony, payable to the officiant. The fee is non-refundable. Check with your officiant, they may be able to accept cash, check, money order, PayPal, Venmo, CashApp, or Zelle.

Couples are required to bring two witnesses to the ceremony.

Couples can choose where they wish to have their ceremony. Locations outside of Florence may require a travel fee. Some location ideas are:

At the Gazebo downtown
On the beach
At the Lighthouse
In their home
Any other location of their choosing
