About the Library

 Library Services

At the library, we can help connect you with self-help legal resources, example forms, and a variety of legal information to help you better understand your legal question. If you have received a court document, trying to start a court case, or are trying to understand your rights in a legal situation, feel free to contact us at [email protected] or (541) 682-4337 (please leave contact information if leaving a voicemail) and we will get back to you as soon as we are able.

Due to unforeseen staffing reductions, the front desk of the law library may be unstaffed during open hours. If that is the case, please fill out the reference form on the front desk, describe your question, and slip it through the glass. We will get back to you as soon as we are able.

Library staff are not lawyers or facilitators, so are unable to look over forms or provide legal advice.

 Books Available at the Library

We have an online library catalog with thousands of titles from a variety of legal publishers; the collection primarily focuses on Oregon resources. Staff will make every effort to guide patrons to the most appropriate and authoritative resources in order to conduct the most meaningful and target research.

The collection includes:

  • Practical Oregon materials from the Oregon State Bar, Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, and Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program materials.
  • Past and present Oregon laws and legislative history resources, and United State Code and Regulations.
  • Secondary resources like treatises, legal dictionaries, form books, and legal encyclopedias.
  • Self-Help law books from NOLO and National Consumer Law Center (NCLC).

Digital Resources on Public Computers

The Law Library offers four (4) public computers with internet access. On one or more of the computers are icons for three legal databases the library subscribes to:

  • Westlaw—cases, statutes, Keyciting (case validation), and some secondary materials
  • LexisNexis—online database featuring caselaw, statues, legislation, and more.
  • HeinOnline—law review articles, federal legislative history, and historic legal materials.
  • BarBooks—attorney practice guides and deskbooks published by the Oregon State Bar.

In addition, Microsoft Word is installed on public computers for drafting court documents.

Technology Resources

The Law Library provides a self-service copy machine that allows both printing from the public computers, printing from a personal device, and basic copying. The current (FY25-26) fee is $0.25/page (1-sided) for B&W and $2/page for color. Users must pay with cash, click here for the printing instructions.

With staff assistance, library patrons may send or receive fax per established county rates, ranging from $1.00-$6.00 plus $0.25-$5.00 (Lane Manual 60.865)

The Law Library has a public courtesy phone located near the front entrance which may be used to make and receive local calls.

There is one Oregon eCourt Case Information (OECI) viewing only (e.g. no printing) workstation.

Free WiFi is available throughout the Public Service Building, including the law library, on the LC_Public_Wifi network.

Meeting Rooms & Workspace Opportunities

We have two meeting rooms available via reservation and availability.

One is a smaller, "study" room with a computer, ideal if you have eCourt or a video-call meeting and need technology access. It is ideal for 1-2 people, a maximum of 3.

The other room is a larger meeting room, with a conference table and chairs, ideal for meeting with a client or attorney (or any other kind of meeting!). It is ideal for 5-6 people, a maximum of 8.

If you would like to reserve a meeting room, please contact us ahead of time at (541) 682-4337 or [email protected] so we can hold the space for you.

The Library’s extensive footprint also provides many quiet areas to conduct legal research, draft and fill out pleadings, filings, and forms, to prepare for court.
