EUGENE, Ore. - As the temperature rises, doctors want to remind the public to drink plenty of water and avoid over-exertion.

Heat stroke can lead to organ failure and even death. Symptoms include hot, dry skin, rapid breathing and confusion. The young and elderly are most at risk.

"You don't want to enter a heat event; especially if you're going to be exerting yourself, going outside and playing beach volleyball. You want to make sure that your tank is full of water," said Patrick Luedtke from the Lane County Health Department.

Experts say the best way to beat the heat is to start hydrating the night before a hot day.

The CDC recommends adults drink between two and four cups of water per hour.
