March 4, 2021. Community Health Centers of Lane County - Career Technical Education Project in South Lane County Underway!
Following nearly a decade of advocacy and planning, community partners are moving forward in bringing a primary care clinic and programing to include health careers and technical education to serve South Lane County in Cottage Grove.
A new clinic access site, the first in Lane County to be located in a rural community, ensures systems of care will be in place that address the whole patient.  Addressing the Social Determinants of Health ensures that we meet the needs of the greater community, including those most vulnerable. The Cottage Grove Be Your Best Coalition has been instrumental in actively engaging the community over the years to help ensure the clinic and career and technical education project meets local community needs.

Community Health Centers of Lane County (CHCLC) supports Lane County’s 2021-25 Community Health Improvement Plan by:

  • Serving all people regardless of race, gender, age, preferred language, sexual orientation,
housing, citizenship, insurance status, or ability to pay,

  • Providing comprehensive services, which cover treatment and prevention, including integrated medical, behavioral, reproductive, and oral health services.

Pending the signing of the partnership agreement, the health clinic is set to open on the Cottage Grove Lane Community College (LCC) campus late 2021/early 2022 depending on timelines to secure funding for initial capital renovation and subsequent construction timelines.

Career and Technical Education. CHCLC, South Lane School District, LCC, and PeaceHealth are partnering to identify the most promising healthcare pathways and develop the health clinic as a real-world learning and training site for high school and community college students interested in healthcare careers.

Partners invested in a core team who are collaboratively working to plan and implement this project include: CHCLC, LCC, PeaceHealth, South Lane Mental Health, and South Lane School District with the Be Your Best Coalition serving as the Community voice and project advocate.  Oregon Community Foundation is helping facilitate the coordination of the collaboration partners to get the health clinic site ready to open the doors to welcome the local community.
