In Lane County, deadly use of force incidents are conducted by IDFIT, which is comprised of investigators who are independent of the involved agency as outlined under Senate Bill 111.
The Lane County Interagency Deadly Force Investigation Team (IDFIT) responds and maintains primary investigative role for the use of force immediately following police use of deadly force incidents. The Lane County Deadly Force Plan provides a framework for a consistent response to an officer’s use of deadly physical force that treats the officer fairly and promotes public confidence in the criminal justice system.
Upon completion, the IDFIT provides its investigation to the District Attorney, who then reviews it and determines whether the use of deadly force was lawful.
