Kennel Licenses

  • Kennel licenses are only available to dog owners that reside in the areas outside of the city limits and urban growth boundaries. Please check with the Lane County Land Management Division to make sure any required permits are up-to-date.
  • All dogs that live in Lane County must display a current dog license/tag per Lane County code(s) 7.070 and 7.075.
  • Commercial Kennel (business/boarding): payment for this type of license includes the issuance of a license tag for each of your personal dogs.  Proof of a current rabies vaccination must be provided for each dog prior to the issuance of a license tag.
  • Commercial Kennel (breeders): a license tag will be provided for each dog with proof of a current rabies vaccination.
  • Non-Commercial Kennel license: Three or more dogs over six months of age.  Please note that you have the option to purchase this type of kennel license or license your dogs individually. If you choose to license your dogs individually, please note that zoning restrictions/permits still apply if you own more than 8 dogs at any residence.

Pro-Bone-O / Licenses-No Charge

Pro-Bone-O clinics offer free rabies vaccinations for the dogs of owners who are homeless in Lane County.  These dog owners may also obtain a free Lane County dog license for a term of one year.

Dog owners: You must provide the rabies certificate from Pro-Bone-O in person (see left side bar on this page for address and hours).  If you are renewing, you may come in person or mail in your updated rabies certificate and we will update your license record.

If your dog is not spayed or neutered, the following process applies:

  • You will receive a provisional license contingent on providing us proof that your dog will be spayed or neutered within 90 days.
  • You will be required to provide us the spay/neuter appointment date and Vet clinic name at the time of purchase.
  • Once your proof of spay/neuter is received, your license expiration date will be credited to reflect a license term of one year.
  • It is your responsibility to contact us to update appointment dates or Vet clinic info so that we can obtain spay/neuter proof.
  • If spay/neuter proof can not be verified, your license will become invalid.
