Stewardship Saturday Volunteer Work Parties

Join us each month for hands-on volunteer projects at parks across Lane County. From trail work to habitat restoration, every project helps keep our parks safe, healthy, and welcoming.

All experience levels are welcome. We provide the tools and guidance - you bring your time and energy.

Join Lane County Parks and the Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative to help remove invasive Scotch broom and restore the unique coastal landscape at North Jetty.

This collaborative effort supports the preservation of open sand, native habitats, and the natural dune processes that make this area so special for plants, wildlife, and visitors alike.

Whether you’re a longtime volunteer or brand new, your help makes a visible difference.

What We’ll Be Doing

  • Removing invasive Scotch broom

  • Improving habitat health near the North Jetty parking area

  • Supporting long-term dune restoration efforts

What to Expect

  • Work will take place close to the parking area

  • Flat, sandy slopes and areas along the road

  • Digging and cutting woody shrubs

What’s Provided

  • Shovels, hand saws, and loppers (tools available to borrow)

What to Bring

  • Closed-toe shoes

  • Work gloves

  • Water and snacks

  • Dress for the weather (coastal conditions can change quickly)

If it’s sunny or lightly misting, we’ll be working. In the event of a storm, we will cancel and notify registered participants. A final weather decision will be made Friday afternoon. Please register to receive updates.

From the intersection of Hwy 101 and Hwy 126 in Florence, travel west on Rhododendron Dr. for 4.9 miles. Turn left onto North Jetty Rd. and continue 1.0 mile to the North Jetty Beach parking lot. Watch for potholes near the end of the road.

Kinney Park may fly under the radar, but its wooded hillside, quiet trails, and natural character make it a quiet spot worth stewarding. Join us for a volunteer day focused on clearing trails, removing downed wood, and tackling invasive species to keep this park safe maintain the natural charm.

This is a great opportunity to explore a park you may not have visited before — and help make it better.

What We’ll Be Doing

  • Clearing debris and downed wood from trails
  • Removing invasive plant species
  • Improving overall trail access and safety

What to Expect

  • The park is located on a hillside with uneven ground
  • Work may involve bending, lifting, and walking on slopes
  • We’ll work at a steady, comfortable pace with guidance provided

  • Gloves
  • Tools
  • Water
  • Snacks

What to Bring

  • Closed-toe shoes or boots with good traction
  • Layers and rain gear as needed (dress for the weather)
  • A reusable water bottle (optional — water will be available)

Join us for a hands-on morning of stewardship along the Crilly Nature Trail at Armitage Park. This popular riverfront park is home to trails, a dog park and campground as well as access to the McKenzie River.

What We’ll Be Doing

  • Laying fresh wood chips along the Crilly Nature Trail
  • Removing invasive plant species
  • Improving trail conditions for visitors and wildlife

What to Expect

  • Work will take place on and around the Crilly Nature Trail
  • Some lifting, bending, raking, and walking on uneven surfaces
  • We’ll work at a steady, comfortable pace with guidance provided

  • Gloves
  • Tools
  • Water
  • Snacks

What to Bring

  • Closed-toe shoes or boots with good traction
  • Layers and weather-appropriate clothing
  • A reusable water bottle (optional — water will be available)
