Metal Detecting

April 18, 2024: Effective immediately, metal detecting is prohibited at all Lane County Parks.

This decision has been made in consideration of the extensive cultural resources known to exist regionally. It has been determined that the recreational use of metal detectors on Lane County Parks property has the potential to jeopardize archaeological, historical, and/or paleontological resources located on these lands.

We understand that this may impact some of our visitors who enjoy metal detecting as a recreational activity. However, the preservation of these invaluable resources is of utmost importance to us. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work to protect and conserve the cultural heritage of our parks for future generations to enjoy.
Previously issued permits remain valid until the expiration date.
