The planning work in 2014 provided opportunities for public input and resulted in a community preferred design alternative. This work included a stakeholder advisory committee and two public open houses. Many relationships were developed and sustained over the years, with project proponents testifying and submitting support letters, as Lane County worked to acquire additional funding in order to deliver the community preferred design. Over 100 interested parties have been updated periodically over the years on the status of the project.

In 2019, Lane County invited the community to attend a public information meeting to learn about the project advancing to construction in 2020-2023. The meeting was attended by over 70 community members, including area residents, business owners, and bicycling enthusiasts. Staff affirmed that the 2014 community preference was the design being implemented and shared preliminary plans for discussion. There was an overwhelming celebratory feeling expressed by community members with additional follow-up promised by staff to answer more detailed questions as information became available.
