Marcola Safe Routes to School

Street view of Wendling Road at Marcola School

Lane County applied for and was awarded over $1.8 million in grant funding from the Oregon Department of Transportation Safe Routes to School Program in 2024 to improve access on two segments of roadway in the community of Marcola.

The first segment of the project will construct sidewalks, new curb ramps, crosswalk with Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon, and pedestrian crossing warning signs on Wendling Road. The other segment along Marcola Rd will improve twelve non-compliant curb ramps and two end of walk ramps on Marcola Road. Additionally, two non-compliant ramps at the intersection of Marcola Road and Wendling Road will be removed and six end of walk ramps will be added on six different roads that intersect with Marcola Road from Whitmore Street to Queen Street.

The project's development involved collaboration with both community members and the Marcola School District.
