Marcola Safe Routes to School

Street view of Wendling Road at Marcola School

Lane County applied for and was awarded over $1.8 million in grant funding from the Oregon Department of Transportation Safe Routes to School Program in 2024 to improve access on two segments of roadway in the community of Marcola.

The first segment is on Wendling Road, from Honeybee Lane to Marcola Road. The second segment is on Marcola Road from Wendling Road to Walling Street. The project on Wendling Road will add sidewalks, new curb and gutters, pedestrian crosswalk with rapid flashing beacon, new ADA ramps, advanced pedestrian warning signs, and a retaining wall. The other segment along Marcola Road will remove two noncompliant ADA ramps and add new ADA-compliant ramps where an existing pedestrian crossing is located. The project's developed involved collaboration with both community members and the Marcola School District.

This is ultimately a construction grant. Stay tuned to this page and visit the TripCheck website for the most up-to-date construction and closure information. Project construction is expected to be completed by the end of summer 2026.
